Why is one extension ten times the price of another?
The registry behind it, almost entirely. Each ending is operated by a different organisation on a different commercial footing: a legacy registry carrying tens of millions of names prices at volume, while a niche or country-code registry with a fraction of that demand charges what its operation costs to run. Registrar margin is the smaller part of the figure, and it is the part that stays put here — which is why .com and .io sit so far apart in the table while both renew at exactly what the table says.
How quickly is a name mine after I pay?
On the common extensions the registration completes while you are still on the confirmation screen and the domain appears in your panel immediately. Resolving to a website is the separate step: set the nameservers, then allow the internet's caches to catch up — usually minutes, occasionally a few hours. The exceptions are a handful of country-code registries that file by hand, .pk among them, where a working day is the realistic figure.
Do I need to buy an SSL certificate for the domain?
