Hotels: your booking engine is a different website
You optimise your site, a guest clicks Book, and everything from that point runs on infrastructure you do not control.
The short answer
A hotel website is two systems with a seam in the middle. Your pages sell the property; a third-party booking engine takes the money, usually on its own domain, and no page speed report you run on your site includes a single millisecond of it.
Measure across the seam. Time your room page, then time the first paint of the booking engine after the click, as one journey. If your page returns in under a second and the engine takes six, the abandonment you are seeing is not your hosting and no plan change will alter it.
What you do control stays quick: NVMe behind a LiteSpeed cache, built-in WebP conversion, free SSL, engineer-run migration and 24/7 support, from $2.42/mo with flat renewals.

Hotels have the clearest split of any accommodation business. There is the marketing site, which you own: rooms, rates, location, photography, direct-booking messaging. And there is the reservation system, which you almost certainly do not.
That seam is where most of the measurement goes wrong. Every tool people use points at the first half, reports a decent number, and says nothing at all about the second half, where the guest is actually being asked to type a card number.
So this page covers both sides of it: how to keep your own pages genuinely quick, and how to measure the handoff so that when you complain to your booking provider you are holding numbers rather than impressions.
Measure the journey, not the page
Open DevTools, tick Preserve log, load a room page and then click through to the booking engine without clearing anything. You now have both halves in one waterfall. Note when your page finished and when the engine drew its first meaningful content.
That second figure is usually the surprise. Booking engines frequently load a large JavaScript application before showing anything, and if it sits on a different domain the browser also pays for a fresh DNS lookup, connection and TLS handshake. All of that lands after your page score has stopped counting.
Room photography is your own biggest cost
Hotel photography is professionally shot and enormous. A room page with twelve images at camera resolution is tens of megabytes, and the one at the top is your Largest Contentful Paint element. Export at display width, let built-in WebP conversion run, and keep the hero comfortably under a few hundred kilobytes.
Then lazy-load the rest and set explicit dimensions so the page does not shift as they land. Test on Slow 4G with cache disabled and aim for largest paint under 2.5 seconds. Guests browse rooms on phones in the evening, not on a wired connection in your office.
What you can fix on the engine, and what you cannot
You cannot make somebody else's application smaller. You can, however, reduce what the handoff costs: preconnect to the booking engine's domain from your room pages so DNS, connection and TLS are already established when a guest clicks, and pass the dates and room type in the link so the engine does not open on a blank search.
Beyond that, the lever is commercial rather than technical. Take your timings to the provider. A waterfall showing six seconds to first paint is a conversation; feeling that it is slow is not. If several properties report the same thing, providers do act on it.
Keep the direct-booking pages the fastest you have
Your best-rate and offers pages exist to beat a booking platform's listing, and speed is part of that argument. They are also completely static, which means LiteSpeed can serve them from cache without starting PHP, so there is no excuse for them being slow.
Check field data monthly for those specific URLs in PageSpeed Insights, which reports real Chrome visits over a rolling 28 days at the 75th percentile. If they are green and your conversion is still poor, the problem is past the seam, and now you can prove it.

Your half of the journey, properly built
Room and offers pages are static and fully cacheable, so LiteSpeed serves them without starting PHP, on NVMe storage with built-in WebP conversion for the photography.
Free SSL, engineer-run migration, daily backups and domain mailboxes come on every plan, and support answers at any hour rather than during office hours.
- Room, rate and offers pages served as cached files
- WebP conversion for professionally shot photography
- NVMe storage on Sprint, Turbo and Nitro

Why HostingFast
Standard on every plan
Static pages served instantly
Room, rate and offers pages are fully cacheable, so LiteSpeed returns them without invoking PHP at all.
Room photography, cut down
Built-in WebP conversion reduces professionally shot room images without adding a plugin licence to the bill.
A clean handoff
Preconnecting to the booking engine's domain moves DNS, connection and TLS off the critical path after the click.
Mail guests receive
MailChannels handles outbound delivery, so enquiry replies and confirmations are not filtered on the way.
Uptime you can check
A 99.9% commitment with a pro-rated credit and continuous monitoring, so a bad evening is a record rather than a guess.
Someone awake at 2am
Humans on the desk around the clock, with first replies targeted at two hours and one hour when a site is down.

Frequently Asked
What people ask us most often
Why does my site score well but bookings still drop off?
Because the drop-off is probably past the seam. Your page score stops at your own domain, and the booking engine that loads afterwards is a separate application on separate infrastructure. Capture both in one waterfall with Preserve log ticked and you will usually find the delay on the far side of the click.
Can I make my booking engine faster?
Not directly, but you can shorten the handoff. Add a preconnect to the engine's domain from your room pages so DNS, connection and TLS are already done when a guest clicks, and pass the dates and room type in the link so it does not open on an empty search.
How big should hotel room photography be?
Exported at the width it actually displays, converted to WebP, with the hero comfortably under a few hundred kilobytes. Professional photography arrives at camera resolution, and a room page with twelve untouched files is tens of megabytes for a guest browsing on a phone.
What do I do if the booking provider says the delay is my site?
Show them the waterfall. If your page finished in under a second and their first paint was six seconds later, the timings settle it. Providers respond to evidence, particularly when several properties report the same figures, and our support will help you read the trace.
