Web hosting for car detailers — video is the decision you get wrong first

A walkaround clip uploaded straight to the media library will out-weigh every other asset on the page combined.

The short answer

Do not self-host detailing video on a hosting plan. A two-minute walkaround at a sensible bitrate is tens of megabytes, and every visitor who lands on the page pays for the part of it that autoplays whether they watch or not. Embed from a video platform and keep the megabytes off your bandwidth and off your visitor's connection.

What you do host is the poster frame, and that is where the measurement goes: a well-compressed still under 150 KB, with explicit dimensions, is what a visitor sees first and is very often the Largest Contentful Paint element. Keep that under 2.5 seconds on a throttled mobile profile.

Every plan carries NVMe behind a LiteSpeed cache with built-in WebP conversion, free SSL, engineer-run migration and 24/7 support, from $2.42/mo renewing at that same rate.

Detailing is a visual trade with a before-and-after problem that photographs cannot fully solve. Swirl marks, gloss, the way light moves over a corrected panel: it wants motion, so detailers reach for video, and reach for the media library to put it in.

That single decision is usually the difference between a page that loads in two seconds and one that loads in twelve. Not because the hosting is slow, but because a video file is two orders of magnitude larger than everything else on the page.

So this page is about media strategy measured properly: what to host yourself, what to embed, what to compress, and how to see the difference rather than guess at it.

Embed the video, host the still

A video platform gives you adaptive bitrate, which means a visitor on a weak signal gets a lower-quality stream instead of a stalled page. A file served from your own account is one fixed size for everybody, and the person on two bars of 4G is the one who leaves.

The exception is a very short, muted, looping clip used as decoration, which can be reasonable if it is under a couple of megabytes and genuinely earns its place. Everything longer belongs on a platform, embedded with a poster image, and loaded only when somebody presses play.

Poster frames are where the measurement lives

The poster is what a visitor sees before any video loads, and on most detailing pages it is the Largest Contentful Paint element. Export it at the width it actually displays at, let built-in WebP conversion take it down further, and aim to keep it under about 150 KB.

Then measure. Throttle to Slow 4G in the DevTools Network panel with cache disabled, reload, and check where LCP lands in the Performance panel. Under 2.5 seconds is the target at the 75th percentile of real visits, and a properly sized poster on a cached page usually clears it comfortably.

What an embed still costs you

Embeds are not free either. A standard player iframe pulls in a script bundle and often several requests before it draws anything, and three embeds on one page means three of those. Use a click-to-load pattern: show your own poster image, and only insert the iframe when the visitor taps it.

That one change routinely removes several hundred kilobytes and a chunk of main-thread work from a first visit. Check it by loading the page with the Network panel open and comparing total requests and transfer before and after. If the numbers did not move, the pattern is not implemented properly.

The bandwidth arithmetic, briefly

Sprint includes 500 GB of monthly bandwidth and Turbo a terabyte. Photographs and posters will not trouble either. Self-hosted video will: a 40 MB clip that autoplays for two thousand visitors is 80 GB in a month from one page.

That is the practical reason the recommendation is what it is, and it is also why the arithmetic is worth doing before you upload rather than after the first busy month. Move the video off your account and the same traffic costs you a rounding error.

The media half of a detailing site

Built-in WebP conversion and NVMe storage behind a LiteSpeed cache keep photographs and poster frames quick, which is the media you should be hosting yourself.

Free SSL, engineer-run migration, daily backups and domain mailboxes come on every plan, with renewals billed at the rate you signed up on.

  • WebP conversion built in, poster frames included
  • Bandwidth: 500 GB on Sprint, 1 TB on Turbo
  • NVMe with a LiteSpeed cache over the top
  • Free SSL that reissues on its own

Why HostingFast

Standard on every plan

Posters compressed for you

Built-in WebP conversion takes a resized poster frame down again without another plugin licence to manage.

Bandwidth you will not reach

500 GB on Sprint and a terabyte on Turbo, which is generous for photography and irrelevant for embedded video.

Cached pages, quick first paint

LiteSpeed serves the gallery page before PHP starts, so the browser can spend its budget on the poster image.

Staging for a media rebuild

Try a click-to-load embed pattern on a clone, measure the transfer saving, then promote it.

Migration handled

Engineers move the existing site and media library across free, with your sign-off before the switch.

No step up at renewal

The rate you sign up at is the rate you renew at, with no setup fee at the start of it.

Quick Start

From order to online

  1. 1

    Move video off the account

Upload walkarounds to a video platform and embed them, so visitors get an adaptive stream and your bandwidth stops carrying the file.

  2. 2

    Size the poster properly

Export at display width, let WebP conversion run, and aim for under 150 KB. Then confirm LCP on Slow 4G in the Performance panel.

  3. 3

    Make embeds click-to-load

Show your own poster and insert the player iframe only on tap, then compare total requests and transfer before and after.

Frequently Asked

What people ask us most often

Should I upload detailing videos to my hosting account?

No. A video file is one fixed size for every visitor, so somebody on a weak signal gets a stalled page rather than a lower-quality stream. Embed from a video platform, which gives adaptive bitrate, and keep your own account for photographs and poster frames.

How large should a poster frame be?

Under about 150 KB, exported at the width it actually displays, then converted to WebP. The poster is usually your Largest Contentful Paint element, so it is the single image on the page most worth getting right. Everything below the fold can be lazy-loaded behind it.

Do embedded players slow the page down too?

They do. A player iframe fetches a script bundle and several requests before drawing anything, and three embeds means three sets of that. Use click-to-load: your own poster image on the page, and the iframe inserted only when a visitor taps it.

How much bandwidth does self-hosted video actually use?

More than people expect. A 40 MB clip autoplaying for two thousand visitors is around 80 GB from a single page in one month. Sprint includes 500 GB and Turbo a terabyte, so it is survivable and completely unnecessary once the video is embedded instead.
