Panel & Tooling
cPanel: the panel every guide you find already assumes
There are eighty icons on that screen and you will use six of them, so it is worth knowing which six.
The short answer
cPanel is the per-account control panel most of the hosting industry runs: one account, one login, and forms over the web server, mail stack, DNS, MySQL, cron and TLS beneath it. Its real advantage is not the feature list but the assumption every tutorial makes about it.
For anyone technical, the value shows up in three places: MultiPHP Manager for per-site releases and php.ini values, Terminal and SSH keys for real work, and the account backup format that restores onto any other cPanel host in one operation.
It runs on our shared, business and WordPress plans, kept at the latest release, over NVMe storage behind a LiteSpeed cache.

Engineers on shift
Two decades in front have produced an ecosystem nothing else matches. Migration tools read its backup archives natively, every written walkthrough shows the screen you are looking at, and anyone who has touched hosting before already knows where the mail settings are. That ubiquity is itself the feature.
On reseller and server products it pairs with WHM, the tier above it. cPanel administers one account; WHM administers the set of them, defines packages and sets server-wide policy. If you only ever buy hosting, WHM never appears.
The six screens worth learning
MultiPHP Manager and the PHP extensions selector, for setting a release and its extensions per site. MySQL Databases and phpMyAdmin. Cron Jobs. Terminal, or SSH Access for uploading a key. Backup, for a full account archive. And the resource usage graphs, which tell you whether an afternoon slowdown is yours or the machine's.
Everything else — the file manager, the redirect builder, the visitor statistics — is convenience you can ignore until the day it saves you a shell session. The search box at the top of the panel jumps straight to any tool by name, which is faster than learning the icon layout.
Where the panel is slower than a terminal
Anything you would do more than twice. A hundred redirects, a database import, updating plugins across a dozen sites, or grepping an error log all belong in a shell. Terminal inside cPanel gets you there without leaving the browser, and a key uploaded to SSH Access gets you there from your own machine.
This is where the myth that cPanel is only for beginners comes from. It is not; it is simply a safety rail for occasional stateful jobs, and using it for bulk work is a choice rather than a limitation.
The backup format is the portability
A full cPanel account backup carries files, databases, mail accounts and their contents, DNS zone, cron entries and certificate configuration. Restore it onto any other cPanel host and the account comes back whole, which is the practical reason to buy cPanel hosting rather than something bespoke.
Download one occasionally even if the platform backs you up daily. A copy on the platform protects you from a mistake; a copy in your own hands protects you from everything else, including a dispute with a provider.
cPanel on our platform
The latest release runs on shared, business and WordPress plans, with Softaculous and its 240+ applications in the panel, WordPress Toolkit for site-level management, daily backups with self-service restores, and free SSL issued and renewed automatically. Licensing is folded into the plan price rather than billed separately.
Underneath it is the same platform on every tier: NVMe behind LiteSpeed with current PHP 8.x and OPcache, in a London datacentre. Read WHM, Control Panel and Softaculous next.

Six screens, and the shell for everything else
cPanel documentation tends to describe all eighty icons equally. This entry ranks them by how often a person running a real site opens them, and says plainly where a terminal is the better answer.
SSH with Git and Composer is available on shared plans, so nothing forces bulk work through a form.
- MultiPHP Manager and extensions
- Terminal and SSH keys
- Full account backups that restore anywhere
- Resource graphs for the afternoon dip
Why HostingFast
Standard on every plan
MultiPHP Manager per site
Set a PHP 8.x release and its extensions per site, with php.ini values on the same screen and changes applying almost immediately.
Terminal built into the panel
A shell without leaving the browser, plus SSH key upload for working from your own machine.
Softaculous with 240+ apps
Installs the official releases with database and configuration handled, and removes them cleanly when you are done.
WordPress Toolkit included
Site-level updates, cloning and hardening from one screen rather than a plugin dashboard per site.
Full account backups
Files, databases, mail, DNS and cron in one archive that restores onto any cPanel host.
Free SSL, renewed automatically
Certificates issue as soon as the domain resolves here and renew ahead of expiry without a cron of your own.
Quick Start
From order to online
- 1
Upload an SSH key on day one
SSH Access in the panel. Password logins are slower and worse, and the key takes two minutes to add.
- 2
Set the PHP release per site
MultiPHP Manager, then the extensions selector for anything your application needs. Check the version your app reports afterwards.
- 3
Download one full backup
Take an archive by hand, unzip it locally and confirm mail and DNS are in there. That is your exit route, tested.

Frequently Asked
What people ask us most often
Which cPanel screens do developers actually use?
MultiPHP Manager and the extensions selector, MySQL Databases with phpMyAdmin, Cron Jobs, Terminal or SSH Access, and Backup. Add the resource usage graphs and that is the working set. The remaining icons are convenience features you can meet as they become relevant.
Can I do everything over SSH instead?
Nearly. Files, databases, cron and application work are all better in a shell. DNS zones, mailbox creation and certificate issuance are quicker and safer through the panel because the form validates what you are about to do. Use both and pick per task.
What exactly is in a full cPanel backup?
Files, databases, mail accounts and their stored messages, the DNS zone, cron entries and certificate configuration. That completeness is why the archive restores onto any other cPanel host in one operation, and it is the strongest practical argument for standard panels over bespoke ones.
Is cPanel charged separately?
No. It is commercial software licensed per account, and that cost is already inside the plan price rather than appearing as a line on your invoice. The per-account licensing model is also why flat-licence panels became attractive to resellers, which is a different conversation.
